4.10 TABLES

There are no table formatting elements in HTML 2.0. Therefore, if you wish to present orderly tabular data in rigorously correct HTML 2 documents data you will have to use the preformatted element <PRE> ..... </PRE>, and place the structured table inside. This, of course, only works for text, and doesn't work for images (which are not allowed inside a PRE, or FORMs, or any of the other fun stuff.

Fortunately, HTML 3 does include extensive table layout elements, many of which are supported by current browsers such as Netscape Navigator. These elements are discussed in the following documents:
